Acupuncture for jaw (TMJ) pain
The ASA accepts evidence for short-term relief of jaw (TMJ) pain, alongside other treatment.
What the evidence says
The Advertising Standards Authority accepts evidence that acupuncture can offer short-term relief of jaw pain from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, alongside other treatment such as advice from your dentist or GP.

What a session involves
We'll talk through when the jaw pain started, whether there's clicking or clenching, and your general health and stress levels. Treatment often includes gentle local points near the jaw as well as points elsewhere.
Acupuncture needles are solid and hair-fine, far thinner than a needle used for injections. Most people feel a light prick or nothing at all.

What I can't promise
Everyone is different, and acupuncture isn't a substitute for medical care. If you have a diagnosed condition or you're taking medication, keep your GP involved. I'll always tell you honestly whether I think acupuncture is right for you.
